The work you access with your GatorLink username and password is important, often mission-critical, and involves sensitive or private data about students, faculty, and staff. Protecting your password helps ensure this work is secured.
The number of computer attacks (hacking) and the proliferation of computer viruses are a constant threat. Protecting your GatorLink account from unauthorized access helps keep UF computers and computer networks safe.
What is “GatorLink Single Sign-On”?
The GatorLink Single Sign-On (SSO) is a feature that has existed for several years in the myUFL Portal and was extended to non-Portal applications in 2010. An application that uses the UF GatorLink Sign-on screen can now participate in the SSO feature. This feature generally allows an application that is being logged on to by the user to verify the credentials of the person based on the current browser session and information stored at the Identity Service Provider (IdP). If a user has already logged on to a GatorLink protected application the user may be allowed to sign on to subsequent application within the same browser session without reentering the GatorLink username and password. The GatorLink IdP software is aware of the browser session and in many cases will pass credentials to the second, third, etc. application started within the specific browser session. The experience varies depending on the internet browser used, the version of the browser software, and the specific application being accessed. Once the browser is closed all applications within that browser are closed and require new credentials (i.e., a re-entering of your GatorLink SSO) to return to the application. The GatorLink SSO feature allows users to work on enterprise, college and department-level applications without continually being asked for their credentials. An application can request a credential as deemed needed by the owners of the application.
What is "Self-service Subscription Renewal"?
At times, GatorLink holders may request access to a curriculum provided to self-identified users – generally for a DCE program. Such access result in a "Self Service User" affiliation being added to that identity. The affiliation represents individuals who are self-asserted and have at least the “Self Asserted” Level of Assurance. Examples include: IFAS extension programs and other learning activities for the general public. “Tomato Growing Learning Activity” and “Master Gardener” are generic examples.
The affiliation is maintained for a maximum of 1 year. Once the affiliation is nearing expiration, GatorLink holders may receive an email alerting them that the self service subscription renewal may be needed. Generally, Gatorlink-eligible individuals do not need to renew it. However, individuals who would like to maintain their GatorLink will need to go to my.ufl.edu to renew the subscription. To do so, they should follow the steps below:
Why do I need to change my GatorLink password more often?
There are five levels (P1, P2, P3, P4, and P5) of password policy. The higher the number, the higher your access to the myUFL systems and the more often you will be required to change your password. Please refer to the "Maximum age of password (in days)" attribute in the Password Complexity Standard to determine how often a password must be changed at each level.
What do you mean by a “strong” password?
A strong password is one that is difficult to obtain, guess, or determine. It is at least eight characters long and contains a combination of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, digits, and punctuation/special characters. Your GatorLink password must contain at least three of those four elements and it cannot contain any words found in a dictionary. See Tips for Creating a Strong Password to help you get started.

What if I forget my GatorLink password?
Most people can store a forgotten-password hint in myUFL. Simply click on “My Account” in the myUFL Menu and then click on “Store My Password Hint.” You also may store a question and response as a password hint. If you forget your password, you can use the hint to reset your password in the myUFL portal.
Those with a P5 password policy level will need to reset their password in person with picture ID at the UF Computing Help Desk in the HUB on Stadium Road.if they forget their password.

How can I log on to the portal to use my password hint if I don’t remember my password?
At the GatorLink sign-on page, click on the “Forget Your Password?” link.
Can I still call the Help Desk if I forget my password?
Correct. You can call the UF Computing Help Desk, (352)392-HELP(4357), for password assistance. You will need to go through an identity proofing process with the Help Desk to have your password reset.
