Primary Affiliation

The Primary affiliation is a single EduPerson value (i.e., Faculty, Staff, etc.) taken from one of the eight EduPerson values in the table below. Only one Primary Affiliation is assigned to a UFID, and is determined by the UF affiliation (i.e., Faculty, Vendor, etc.) assigned to the individual.

Example 1: An individual has a UF affiliation of Departmental Associate, so the EduPerson Affiliation in this case would be ‘Member.’ The Primary affiliation would also be Member.

Example 2: An individual has an affiliation of Student, and is also a TEAMS employee. This individual’s EduPerson affiliations would be ‘Staff’ and ‘Student’, because the EduPerson affiliation may be multi-valued. The Primary affiliation would be ‘Staff’. Based on the hierarchical table below ‘Staff’ is a higher EduPerson affiliation than ‘Student’.

An individual’s Primary Affiliation describes their relationship to UF using one of the broad, predefined categories described below. A process runs nightly that determines this affiliation by order of precedence, and is used by DSAs and IdM Coordinators in managing security (roles) and identity information, as well as other functions. The highest ranked affiliation held by an individual is by default, considered their de facto Primary Affiliation. The only mutually exclusive relationships involve Pre-Applicant when the Registrar’s Office changes this categorization to Affiliate (i.e., Student Applicant) or Student.

Valid PRIMARY AFFILIATION codes are limited to (in prioritized order):

1. F=Faculty
2. T=Staff
3. E=Employee
4. S=Student
5. M=Member
6. A=Alumni
7. L=Affiliate
8. P=Contact
